Habitat for Humanity Zambia with support from Habitat for Humanity Africa and Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia participated in the just ended 5th Africa Shelter and Settlements Forum held in Dakar, Senegal.
The Forum provided a platform for cross learning from humanitarian shelter and settlements programming in Africa and updates on regional and global shelter and settlements initiatives.
Habitat for Humanity Zambia presented two papers entitled “Building Community Resilience through the Participatory Approach for Safe Shelter Awareness in Makululu Slum Zambia” during the Shelter Projects Session and the other paper “Co-Production and Inclusive Low Cost Housing in Makululu Slum, Zambia” was presented during the Housing, Land Property, Protection and Gender Session.
A clarion call was made for strengthened stakeholder partnerships to adequately address shelter and human settlements planning in the wake of humanitarian crises induced by immigration and climate related disasters such as flooding. Furthermore, the Forum underscored the importance of community participation in order to build inclusive, safe and resilient human settlements.
