This week, Habitat for Humanity Zambia is conducting Participatory Approach to Safe Shelter Awareness (PASSA) review meetings and organizing community awareness activities to promote proper sanitation and safe housing in preparation for the upcoming rainy season. The goal is to educate Makululu community members about the significance of good sanitation practices in preventing waterborne diseases and creating healthier living conditions.
The awareness campaign aims to cultivate a sense of shared responsibility for fostering a healthy community and empowering residents to embrace best practices for enhancing their shelter conditions and the surrounding environment.
Furthermore, the PASSA review meetings are addressing the challenges encountered in implementing PASSA activities, such as raising awareness about shelter safety, waste management, tree planting, and clearing drainages in various communities of Makululu.
The PASSA committees in Makululu are voluntary groups that have worked closely with Habitat for Humanity Zambia to build community capacities in disaster risk reduction under the Solid Ground: Access to Secure Land and Safe Homes project.
