Habitat for Humanity Zambia joined the rest of world in commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023 under the theme “Making Menstruation a Normal Fact of Life By 2030”. We interpreted the theme by breaking the barriers of information on menstruation through theatrical performances in targeted schools of interventions under the Community Driven Models for WASH in Makululu Project. Activities included drama, demonstration of reusable menstrual pad making, cultural performances and poetry. Boys were included in these activities to make them more aware of how to support girls during menstruation.
We commend the Government of Zambia through the Ministry of Education for the strides taken in improving access for menstrual products for the girls. This has been appreciated by the learners.
The project will support its targeted schools with storage bins and period-friendly sanitation facilities.
