15 Vulnerable Families of Makululu Handed Over Toilets

Habitat for Humanity Zambia this morning handed over 15 toilet facilities to deserving vulnerable families of Makululu community at an event held in Makululu, Kabwe District.

In his remarks, the Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Hon. Mike Mposha who graced the event underscored Government’s commitment to ensuring that every Zambian citizen has at least basic access to adequate water and sanitation by 2030.

Habitat for Humanity Zambia Board Chairperson, Dr Maureen Mwanawasa highlighted the need to ensure access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all especially for the most vulnerable such as the aged, women and people who are differently abled.

Speaking at the event, German Embassy Desk Officer, Development Cooperation Mr. Buumba Siamalube reaffirmed the Germany Government’s commitment in partnering with the Zambian Government and the people of Zambia in fostering national development.

Meanwhile, His worship the Mayor of Kabwe, Mr Patrick Chishala expressed optimism that the increased budget allocation to Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will go a long way in promoting sanitation marketing that will consequently improve sanitation conditions in Kabwe District.

Other key dignitaries present at the event included Bwacha Member of Parliament Mr Sidney Mushanga, Kabwe Town Clerk Mr Jovax Ngoma, Nwasco Managing Director, Eng. Kelvin Chitumbo and Lukanga Water Supply and Sanitation Company Managing Director Eng. Yoram Sinyangwe

The toilet facilities were constructed with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under a project titled “Community-Driven Models for Wash Improvement”. The project is targeting 16,950 vulnerable community members residing in the makululu informal settlement with the goal of building a resilient and healthier community through sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions by 2025. The project will construct a total of 80 pour flush toilets by 2025 benefiting 480 community members.
