4000 Pupils Get Access to Clean and Safe Water

Yesterday, Habitat for Humanity Zambia with financial support from the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited handed over a water point at Muyoya Christian Community School in Solwezi District. The water point will provide access to clean and safe water to more than 4000 pupils at the school. To ensure sustainability of the water point through periodic maintenance, the school was also handed a tool kit at the event.
Officiating at the event, Solwezi District Commissioner, Mr Anthony Fulwe retaliated the need to foster Public-Private Partnerships in the achievement of SDG 6. He further stated that the construction of the water point signified the growth of Solwezi Town and an unwavering dedication to improving the quality of life for all learners.
In her remarks, Habitat for Humanity Zambia National Director, Ms Mathabo Makuta stated that the construction of the water point marked the start of a journey towards a dignified and sustainable future for the school.
Meanwhile, Zambia Airports Corporation Limited Board Chairperson Mr Zeviyanji Sinkala stated that the corporation seeks to support vulnerable schools within communities they operate to because they believe health and hygiene go hand in hand with the development of young minds through education.
Prior to holding the handover event, a combined team of Habitat for Humanity Zambia and Zambia Airports Corporation Limited staff paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness Chief Kapijimpanga of the Kaonde speaking people of Solwezi District.
Habitat for Humanity Zambia and Zambia Airports Corporation Limited have enjoyed a cordial relationship since 2016 that has culminated in the construction of housing units and water points for vulnerable communities in Lusaka, Chongwe and Solwezi districts benefiting thousands of vulnerable individuals.
