PASSA Awareness Key to Shelter Safety

Last week, we conducted Participatory Approach for Safe Shelter Awareness (PASSA) committee meetings and door-to-door community awareness sessions that included the sharing of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials such as posters on PASSA in Makululu community of Kabwe District.
Furthermore, we conducted PASSA awareness sessions with the use of Theatre for Development (TfD) as a development communication participatory approach. Performances such as songs, dances and role plays were used to ignite conversations and relay information on PASSA.
The PASSA meetings and community awareness sessions targeted five (5) wards of Makululu community namely David Ramushu, Makululu, Chililalila, Zambezi and Moomba.
PASSA is a participatory method of disaster risk reduction (DRR) related to shelter safety. It aims to raise the awareness of the vulnerabilities and risks related to their built environment and foster locally appropriate safe shelter and settlement practices.
